The Audubon Insectarium’s Gift Shop and Café are located in the U.S. Customs House on Canal Street in downtown New Orleans. Our dynamic design of both spaces was conceptualized to complement and support Audubon’s newest museum – the largest museum dedicated to insects in North America – The Audubon Insectarium. The Gift Shop features bug-themed merchandise displayed on shelving inside of a giant caterpillar and from the roots of banyan trees and holes carved in boulders. Overhead and through the tree canopy, visitors are surrounded by an enlarged insect world created using murals and insect character animatronics. The Café incorporates the food service one expects in a museum as well as a demonstration kitchen area. This unique kitchen serves as an extension of the museum, teaching the dietary benefits of eating insects. For further information on this project please email info@williamsarchitects.com.
